Buying a used car?
A checklist made for the car you want to buy
Enter its registration: we turn its MOT history into a list of what to inspect, with a full inspection and test-drive guide. A PDF in your inbox in a minute.
What is in your checklist
1
The car, confirmed
Make, model, colour, engine and the date it was first registered, so you know the plate matches the car.
2
Its MOT history
Every MOT test with its result, and each advisory and failure the tester wrote down.
3
What to look at on this car
Its advisories and failures sorted into what to inspect: tyres, brakes, rust, suspension, leaks… with how to check each.
4
Mileage at each MOT
Every reading with the change since the one before, so a lower reading stands out.
5
Inspection and test drive
A list to tick, from the logbook and the VIN to the clutch, the brakes and the warning lights.
6
Questions for the seller
What to ask before you agree a price, and how to pay safely.

Questions and answers
Is this a vehicle history check?
No. It is made from the car’s MOT records: results, advisories, failures and mileage, with a full inspection guide. It does not show outstanding finance, insurance write-offs or stolen records: our Premium report does, for £7.99.
How do I get it?
Enter the registration and your email address and pay £2.99 by card or PayPal. The PDF opens straight away, and we email it to you as well.
What if the car has never had an MOT?
Cars under three years old have no MOT test yet. Your checklist then has the car’s details and the full inspection and test-drive guide, without an MOT history.
Can I print it?
Yes. It is an ordinary PDF: print it, or open it on your phone, and take it with you when you see the car.
What if something goes wrong?
